tencils - Transfers
Dry transfers were also used. Letraset was developed, but the system that came to be used for music was called Notaset. Notaset involved transferring characters that were fixed on transparent material by rubbing them down onto staff paper. A photograph was then taken and printed onto a zinc plate to make multiple copies.

Dry transfers from Notaset. (Private collection of the author.)

Characters begin rubbed down onto pre-determined positions.
